Gold Dusted Blue Mermaid Tear Necklace
The pendant on this necklace is approximately 3 ½” long and is one of my most striking Mermaid Tears. Straight on it appears black with gold highlights however; when back lit you can see that it is actually a beautiful teal in color. I wrapped this piece with recycled / re-purposed copper wire.

I love making necklaces and due to the nature of this freeform glass, as well as my natural inclinations, this is a unique and one of a kind piece. The jewelry supply industry finally caught up with me a few years ago and started making more copper findings and chains! This helps to keep my costs down as my labor to make chains and such was quite extensive.

Mermaid Tears occur when a mermaid cries, the moment her tears touch the saltwater they transform to glass! The tear then floats to the bottom of the ocean to settle amongst the sand and shells. Over time the currents of the ocean push it through the sand, rounding and polishing it as it tumbles. It is eventually deposited by the water on beaches, around the world, for humans to find and marvel over!

The copper chain is approximately 18" and like most of my necklaces, this piece is closed securely with a lobster claw clasp, this one copper colored. As this chain is natural copper it will/has patina/ed to a soft brown. If you want to polish it back to a shine, while it is still a soft brown, just coat it with ketchup for a minute or two and then wash it off with mild dish washing soap, make sure and dry it completely.
